Where do I begin…years ago I started a business named Sew Unique Creations. I started this business right after my son was born in 1997, as I wanted a way to bring in extra income while remaining a stay-at-home mom. I brought sewing and quilting designs in the form of paper patterns to the world. This business grew and flourished for 17 years. I then moved to West Virginia from Illinois, and needed “new” brought into my business world and a bit of rebranding. I changed the name of my business to Quilter’s Ridge and continued to provide quilting patterns worldwide.
I officially closed my design business in 2020. After much contemplation and decision making about what I wanted out of this beautiful life I have created for myself here on my mountain, I realized I no longer wanted to be in the quilting industry publicly. I no longer enjoyed the pressures of designing & publishing quickly to stay on top. Privacy was something I yearned for. I had so many quilts I wanted to piece by hand and hand quilt. I noticed I was starting to loath sitting in front of one of my sewing machines and producing at a fast pace. I also was in a place in my life where I had no desire to travel to a multitude of quilting conventions and shows to keep my name and work forefront in the industry.
So, I stopped everything. The moment I reminded myself that life can change in a split second and things can forever be altered, I knew I needed to find what my purpose in this world is.
Throughout my designing career I published paper patterns, quilting books, had a tremendous presence through my website and blog and had many designs published in magazines.
I have no regrets about that journey in my past life. I met many fabulous people; had wonderful experiences and I regret nothing. Today I am still quilting. I still create my quilts on my trusty Janome, Viking or Singer featherweight machines, but honestly, I prefer piecing by hand the most. I also have enjoyed much more hand quilting these days.
I am blessed to be talented in many areas and a master of none of them. I am forever learning and perfecting my skills.
